You have probably been thinking about launching an online course for a while, but maybe you’ve been wondering about whether or not you are ready. Maybe you are not sure about how to get started.

No problem.

 

I am here to answer both those questions, and more.

 

Before we get into the process of creating and selling an online course, it is important to understand whether or not you are ready to launch one.

Too many people think that creating and launching online courses is an easy way to make money online.

But are online courses passive income machines like some people claim them to be?

Nope.

Creating and launching online courses takes a lot of effort, time, some money, and

AN AUDIENCE.

You CAN get started with creating and launching your online course even if you don’t have an audience, but know that you will have to build one in the process ( or have enough money to spend on testing and optimizing Facebook ads).

 

In fact, I say launching is the best way to build an audience and an email list. Only don’t expect to make a million dollars with your first launch. The number will increase as your audience grows.

 

So many people end up creating their course in a vacuum because they think mapping out the course, recording videos and setting up the backend is enough.

 

But the reality is, having the right sales message and promoting your course is more important than actually creating the course.

The reason most bad courses exist is because their creators might not know how to teach, but they for sure know how to sell.

 

Our goal here is to not only create an amazing course and provide phenomenal student experience, but we also want to make sure we are promoting our course the right way.

So, you are ready to create a course if:

  1. You have a decent sized following ( audience) in a specific niche. For example, if you are a blogger, Youtube, Podcaster or content creator of any type, you probably already have an audience that follows your content and wants to learn more from you.

 If this is true for you, it’s time to create an online course for your audience.

 

 2. You are a coach or consultant and have maxed out your client capacity. If you’ve been a coach or consultant for a while, you probably have a signature process to help your clients. You can turn that unique process into a course.

 

3. You have had a personal experience/ transformation that you are ready to share with the world.

 Is there something you did that changed everything for you? Personal development, health, career, doodling, crochet etc. it could be anything you learned and implemented that you now want to share with others.

 

 4. You have huge career experiences and growth that you can use to help others 

You probably worked as the HR head of a huge organization. You could be the perfect person to launch on course on resume writing, or job interviews.

 

Maybe you excelled at GMAT while working full-time. You could create a course on cracking GMAT in 6 weeks.

 

5. You are an entrepreneur ready to share your success secrets with the world.

 If you’ve been highly successful launching your own e-commerce store, or as a freelance graphic designer, you can help others achieve the same success by teaching a course on the topic.

For example, launch a successful Etsy shop, or how to start freelancing while working full-time.

 

6. You are ready to launch a new product-based business. In this case, you will be building your audience by creating quality content, building your email list and then launching your online course to that list. And you will do this using sales funnels.

 We will talk more about growing an email list and creating sales funnels in a later chapter.

Let’s look at the reasons why you shouldn’t launch an online course:

  1. You are looking for a quick financial fix.

 

Like I said above, creating and launching an online course requires a lot of time and effort and is not a get-rich quick scheme. You need to test a lot of things before you can successfully make money with a course.

 

  1. You don’t have enough knowledge about the topic you want to teach.

 

You started a Keto diet? That’s great. But you shouldn’t really be creating a course on it unless you are really successful at it and know all the ins and outs of the process of going on a keto diet.


  1. You have no online marketing knowledge and are not willing to invest in an expert.

 

A lot goes into the process of creating and launching a course. Validating the idea, choosing the right tools, recording videos, creating the course backend, building your email list, and more.

If you have no idea about how to do these things ( and don’t plan on learning them) and don’t have the money to invest in an expert, you will basically be launching your course in a vacuum.
